Down on the Farm Day set for July 13 at children’s museum
June 13, 2013
RICHMOND—The Children’s Museum of Richmond will host its fourth annual Down on the Farm Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 13. The event will be sponsored by the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation and the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association Inc.
“There will be a live cow and calf at the museum that are being provided by Matt Nuckols, a Farm Bureau member” whose family operates a dairy farm in Hanover County, said Chris Kasenchak, VFBF membership operations and program director. The event also will include a milking contest and a name-the-cow contest.
In addition, “the Farm Bureau will have a station where they do a farm-themed art activity,” said Meredith Screeney, CMoR director of development. “There will also be special art projects and story times throughout the museum.”
Miss Virginia and the Virginia State Dairymen’s Association Dairy Princesses will be on hand to greet and interact with children at the farm-related activities. Free milk and ice cream will be served.
Down on the Farm Day is part of a continuing partnership between the museum and Farm Bureau, which also sponsors the CMoR “Little Farm” exhibit.
Admission to Down on the Farm Day is free with museum admission.
