Crisp fall weather brings participants to State Fair Stampede
October 24, 2013
DOSWELL—Nearly 150 runners and walkers turned out on a cool morning for the second annual State Fair Stampede 5K and 10K on Oct. 5 during the State Fair of Virginia.
For the second year in a row, the 5K winner was Anthony Snipes of New Kent County. The 10K winner was Kathleen Lautzenheiser of Chesterfield County.
The early-morning race wrapped around the perimeter of The Meadow Event Park—past the fair’s midway—before finishing in front of the venue’s centerpiece, Meadow Hall. The 10K also wound through nearby wooded areas, along the North Anna River, and past the fair’s Equine and Livestock Complex. Both courses were certified.
“We had a good turnout for this second-time event,” said Greg Hicks, the fair’s vice president of communications. “The Meadow Event Park is a beautiful piece of property and is perfect for a 5K and 10K race. We hope to continue to build this event.”
The Stampede was presented by the Virginia Horse Industry Board. A portion of proceeds from the event benefited the Virginia Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom. Virginia AITC is a statewide educational program that provides teachers with resources and lesson plans they can use to educate children about the vital role agriculture plays in their everyday lives.
Plans are being made for the 2014 State Fair Stampede, and details will be shared at facebook.com/StateFairStampede as they become available. The 2013 race results are available at thecolonialsports.com.
