April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month

RICHMOND—Three seconds. That’s all it takes.
Eighty percent of all crashes and 65 percent of all near-crashes involve driver inattention within 3 seconds of the crash, according to a recent study by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute.
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
"We are helping promote this campaign because we want to ensure that our members and customers are aware of the dangers of driving while distracted," said Jimmy Maass, safety manager for Virginia Farm Bureau, a safety partner of campaign sponsor Drive Smart Virginia.
From now through fall it also is important to be aware of farm equipment on the roadways.
"Farm equipment may be slow, but it is extremely heavy and can cause a lot of damage and injury to you and to the farmer," Maass said, "so be sure to drive attentively in areas where there is farming activity."
