September is Child Passenger Safety Month

RICHMOND—September is Child Passenger Safety Month, organized to increase awareness about the importance of properly securing children in appropriate child safety seats, booster seats or seat belts.

Child Passenger Safety Week is observed Sept. 17-22 and concludes with National Seat Check Saturday on Sept. 22, when child safety seat checks will occur statewide. To find a nearby check site, visit the Virginia Department of Health’s website at www.vahealth.org/

Jimmy Maass, Virginia Farm Bureau’s safety manager, said it is important for parents and caregivers to purchase and install a seat that is right for a child’s age and size. “It takes only about 20 minutes to have a nationally certified safety seat technician check your seat, and it can make all the difference in the world,” Maass said.
